Amino acids — the building blocks

The pieces your body already makes and uses every day.

Listen to this lesson

Amino acids are the most basic ingredients of life. Your own body already makes them and uses them constantly — to build tissue, to run signals, to keep you alive. They are not foreign, exotic, or unnatural.

There are about 20 standard amino acids. The body strings them together in different orders to build different things — the way 26 letters can form millions of words. Change the order, change the meaning.

  • Glycine — the smallest, a building block of collagen
  • Tyrosine — a precursor to dopamine and thyroid hormones
  • Glutamine — important for gut and immune support
  • Leucine — a trigger for muscle building (mTOR)

You have probably eaten all of these today — they are in the protein in meat, eggs, and dairy. Your body dismantles what you eat into these same letters, then re-spells them into whatever it needs.

This is the root of why peptides get called "natural": they are assembled from the same pieces your body already uses, in patterns your body already understands.

✦ Key takeaway

When you hear "peptide," picture a short sentence your body can already read — not a mystery chemical.
