The four ways to get peptides

Prescription, med spa, gray market, direct-from-China — the trade-offs.

Listen to this lesson

Most confusion about peptides comes from one question: where does this actually come from? There are essentially four routes, and each trades off cost, convenience, and assurance differently.

  1. 1Prescription — doctor + pharmacy + insurance. Most regulated, often most expensive or gatekept
  2. 2Med spas & clinics — the wellness middleman, frequently the highest markup
  3. 3Gray market (RUO) — where most online conversation lives; unregulated, so vetting is on you
  4. 4Direct from China — the lowest cost, and you give up independent testing and recourse

None of these is inherently good or bad. The honest framing is: the more you bypass regulation, the more the burden of due diligence falls on you.

The route you choose is yours — but know what you are trading. Lower cost and convenience usually come with higher responsibility for verification.

✦ Key takeaway

The less regulation a route has, the more vetting you have to do yourself. That is the whole trade-off.
