A copper peptide riding on its famous cousin's reputation to back hair-growth claims it cannot fully support.

What it is

AHK-Cu is a copper-tripeptide: the amino acids alanine, histidine, and lysine wrapped around a copper ion. It comes from the same research family as the better-known copper peptide GHK-Cu, sharing the histidine 'grab handle' that lets the molecule hold onto its copper. It is a cosmetic ingredient found in many topical hair products.

How it works

Copper peptides nudge cells to communicate for repair and growth. In a dish, AHK-Cu stimulates the dermal papilla cells at the base of hair follicles, cells that direct follicle activity, and supports growth-factor signaling that can encourage hair development at the follicle level.

Dosing reference

No approved dose. It appears in cosmetics at typical product concentrations, and effect sizes in studies are nowhere near minoxidil or finasteride. There is no legitimate protocol for injecting it. Verify any product against that.

Watch for

The chemistry and lab effects are real, but the human clinical evidence for AHK-Cu specifically is small, mostly single-group, and dwarfed by the marketing. As an add-on with minoxidil it is plausible; as a standalone alopecia treatment it is not.
