What it is
Cagrilintide is a lab-made version of amylin, a pancreatic hormone released with insulin at mealtime that tells your brain the meal is over. Native amylin lasts only minutes, so this version was modified to last about a week, allowing a once-weekly injection. It works through a different pathway than the GLP-1 drugs.
How it works
Amylin signals fullness through a region of the brainstem called the area postrema. Cagrilintide binds the amylin and related receptors there to reinforce that satisfied feeling. Because it acts outside the GLP-1 pathway, it offers a genuinely separate lever on appetite.
