Mazdutide

Clinical evidence
Metabolic & weight loss

The GLP-1/glucagon dual agonist that reached approval in China ahead of its Western rivals.

What it is

Mazdutide is a dual-agonist peptide built to hit the GLP-1 receptor for appetite and the glucagon receptor for energy use and liver fat. It is modeled on a natural gut hormone called oxyntomodulin. Chinese regulators approved it in 2025 for weight management and type 2 diabetes, though it is not yet approved in the US.

How it works

The GLP-1 half delivers the usual satiety and blood-sugar control. The glucagon half adds energy expenditure and a direct effect on the liver. Unlike the GIP-based drugs that dominate the market, this one pairs GLP-1 with glucagon and skips GIP.

What people report

  • About 14% average weight loss at the 6 mg dose over 48 weeks
  • About 20% at the higher 9 mg dose in a follow-up program
  • Approved in China for chronic weight management and type 2 diabetes
  • Proof that the GLP-1/glucagon mechanism can clear a regulator

Typical use

Used as a steady weight-management treatment; dosing is scaled up over time. No US-approved protocol.

Dosing reference

Chinese approvals set dosing guidelines, but there is no US label. Any use elsewhere is experimental. Verify current registration status.

Watch for

The pivotal data came from a single-ethnicity Chinese population, and there is no FDA approval. The numbers are real; the global evidence base is narrower than approved rivals.
