What it is
SLU-PP-332 is a small synthetic molecule, not a peptide, that turns on a family of proteins called estrogen-related receptors. These are the switches your cells use to run oxidative metabolism, the burn-fat-and-oxygen program behind endurance. It is sometimes called an 'exercise mimetic' because of what it does in animals.
How it works
When you exercise, a protein called PGC-1α flips on a broad program of mitochondrial building and fat-burning. SLU-PP-332 skips the exercise and directly flips on the receptors that carry out that program. In mice this switched on an exercise-like gene signature in muscle, increased energy-burning fibers, and let sedentary animals run dramatically longer and farther.
