Marketed as 'topical Botox,' it is an eight-amino-acid skincare peptide fighting an uphill battle to reach the muscle through your skin.

What it is

Snap-8 is a cosmetic peptide, an eight-amino-acid segment sold in creams and serums. It was designed as a follow-up to an earlier 'wrinkle' peptide and marketed as stronger and longer-acting. It mimics a protein that Botox acts on, which is exactly why the comparison writes itself.

How it works

The idea is to block the machinery, called the SNARE complex, that lets nerves release the chemical that makes facial muscles contract. Botox poisons that machinery with enormous force. Snap-8 hopes to gently interfere with it, relax the muscle slightly, and smooth wrinkles. Same idea as Botox, vastly weaker, and applied to the skin rather than injected.

Watch for
